Back many months before DejaViewstream launched a young, naïve, future Editor-in-Chief was super excited for a future where one of the greatest series ever, Galavant would be streaming on Disney+. After learning about “licensing” he predicted accurately when Galavant would leave Netflix and ensured he gave What’s On Netflix the scoop the minute the “expiration notice” went out on August 7th, 2020.
Leaving the same day as Once Upon A Time, then known to be coming to Disney+ the very next day, it was obvious that Galavant would be arriving shortly after too. After all, it’s a TV-PG comedy with music and lyrics from Disney icon Alan Menken and lyricist extraordinaire Glenn Slater. You may recognize them as the duo behind the incredible Tangled’s excellent music. Galavant was even referred to by fans as a “live-action” Disney princess series for slightly older fans!
This young man and future DVS EiC got the cast and crew excited when the story went out and clamored and begged for Disney to add the title to Disney+.

Little did he know… he messed up.
I can’t believe I’m typing this, but… one year later, Galavant remains vaulted. It hurts to see the cast and crew let down. It’s also frustrating to see Disney treat Galavant so inferiorly to OUAT which went from Netflix to Disney+ in one day despite leaving at the same time as Galavant.
Galavant is unlike anything else out there and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should ever surface on Hulu. People are legitimately worried as the months drag on that one of the most perfect ABC shows for Disney+ is eventually going to be dropped on Hulu like all the other fantastic shows that recently appeared there after having been vaulted for years. We’re looking at Blossom, The Tick, and My Wife and Kids…
Disney has a very concerning strategy when it comes to episodic library television in the USA and the radio silence on Galavant one year later is unfortunate. Galavant isn’t alone – Disney also vaulted American Crime after it left Netflix earlier this year, but American Crime is nowhere near as good a fit (or a cult classic) as Galavant!
Get the show on Disney+, please. It’s where it should have been since last September. It’s where it belongs. And it’s where it will find new fans and live on forever.
PS: Check out Karen David on CAMEO – she is keeping the magic of Queen Izzy alive to this day!!
