DejaView’s 2021 Disney Plus, Streaming, And TV Awards

Another year has come and gone, but unfortunately CoVid is not leaving with it. This year saw the streaming industry continue to grow and expand as Paramount+, HBO Max, and Peacock celebrated 1-year anniversaries and Disney+ celebrated its 2-year. With the initial pandemic delays gone, most services had a decent library of originals this year.

Since we’re primary a Disney+ news site we start with awards for Disney+, then move on to general streaming awards before ending with a few linear (traditional) TV awards.

First, a bit of a Disney recap:

Disney+ kinda forgot to purchase or release original films in 2022 and their original series fell off in Q4 due to a new round of pandemic delays that sadly will continue to impact Disney+ output for the first quarter of 2022. Despite that, they had an impressive and full lineup in spring and summer of original series. Unfortunately, the service itself did not evolve with the feature set remaining barebones and new content still suffering from a service that doesn’t promote it outside of the homescreen hero. All that combined with the complete lack of variety or vintage content. plus constant marketing mistakes and blunders adds up to… well… is Disney+ the best service of 2021? Read on…

Best Disney+ Scripted Series 2021: Big Shot

Runner up: Mysterious Benedict Society

Best Disney+ Unscripted Series 2021: Marvel Assembled

Runner up: Marvel Legends

Note: I don’t watch unscripted originals

Best Disney+ Animated Series 2021: Monsters at Work

Runner up: Chip n Dale Park Life (I quit mid-season, did not watch Bad Batch)

Best Disney+ Short or Shorts Series 2021: Dug Days

Runner up: Olaf Presents

Best Disney+ Filler Content 2021: I don’t watch filler.

Runner Up:

Best Disney+ MCU Series 2021: Hawkeye

Runner up: WandaVision

Have to add some defense on this one: I simply enjoyed Hawkeye more. WandaVision was art but I think they should have covered 2 decades per episode and given the extra time to normal MCU action. Hawkeye was a blast every week. Loki is essentially a 3-way tie with them.
