Woof, the Harry Potter series is once again leaving HBO Max but will remain streaming on Peacock in the latest stage of their custody battle. Say what you will about Disney+, at least they’re not dealing with a major franchise they can’t touch (see also: Paramount+ with Yellowstone and South Park). What’s wild is thus far HBO Max hasn’t greenlit any spin-offs or films the way Paramount has done for those 2. If they started, they could release a couple before that custody battle ends in 2025. Good news is they’re getting close.
Other things worth mentioning in August are the continuation and season finales of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Westworld. Those are our staff picks this month alongside the highly anticipated series premiere of the first Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon.
Disney+ fans will be furious to learn that Garfield 1 and 2 are leaving for the 2nd and 3rd time since launch, this time they’re heading for HBO instead of Starz. It’s obvious Fox made some terribly toxic library deals (for Disney+ subscribers) prior to Disney+ launch that leave subscribers constantly wondering where the Fox films have gone. Usually HBO or Starz!

(HBO) means the title is leaving the linear cable channels as well. Please note that titles which leave often transfer to Cinemax, HBO’s sister-service, for an additional 7 months before becoming available to Disney.
